And many a times he weaves the story in a logical way, as history. Here the author imagines that \u201cThe Seven Sages came down to Hampi to learn about the greatness of pampa pilgrimage & he narrates the story as if he is addressing seven sages. Because of such narrations, the very essence of history is kept behind and the imagination predominates and the history became universal replica. The commitment towards time, place, person, are totally overlooked. All along the literary work you can find many Dream reflections.\nHence we can not call it a work of history. But this work provides required epic material for writing history. \n\nParvathi is cursed by Shiva to take birth in earth and grow up as Daksha's daughter, and he will come as Lord Virupaksha to marry her. This is the backdrop on which this story further evolves and intertwines with local history and folklore.\nAs Daughter of Daksha, she is also called as Dakshayini. From her childhood, she is enticed by Shiva and his stories. She starts worshipping him ever since. \nNarada, came to Daksha and looking at Parvathi, he bowed to her and told to Daksha bout the mystic behind his daughter. And his virtue is to bring the cosmic mates Shiva and Parvathi together.\nHe also revealed further secret that Shiva has come down to earth and is in a Penance as Virupaksha in the holy place Hemakoota hills. \nParvathi should go there and worship him until his penance can be broken and she gets her wish to marry him.\nPer Narada's advice, Parvatha raja took his daughter to Hemakoota hills and left her there in the presence of Nandi and other ganas for her to continue worshipping lord Virupaksha.\nFurther, she carrys her penance at Pampa Sarovara, with daily bathing in the pond and worship and meditations with only Shiva in her heart. And thus she was called as Pampamma or Pampaambika.\n\nMeanwhile, All gods including Brahma and Vishnu went into hiding due to troubles by demon Tarakasura. When Brahma along with indra and other gods reached Vishnu for help, he could see from his divine perception that only Son of Shiva can kill this demon, and for that Shiva's penance needs to be broken and he needs to marry Pampamma.\nLord Vishnu calls for his son Manmatha and asks him to use all his divine powers to get Shiva's heart to flower with love for Pampaambika. This send shivers through Manmatha, and he politely objects to his father's decision, fearing for the consequence by Lord Shiva. Lord Vishnu replies that for wellness of this entire creation, if you have to perish from existence, i feel is worth living. \nHe prepares himself to face Lord Virupaksha, while his wife tries to conceive him not to enter into this death well. While he could not forget the words of his father, The Puppeteer of the inanimate (Jagannataka suthradhari), and he who knows all cause and effects of this universe.\n\nManmatha comes to Hemakoota, he meets Parvathi and she takes him along to Lord Virupaksha who is under the deep penance with no reaction to any events, material or etherial. \nManmatha, the Lord of love takes out arrows made of flowers with sacred nectar of love and shoots at the heart of Shiva. \nShiva's focus on his meditation, let him know of nothing that was h appening. Manmatha takes 5 arrows of different flowers, and with all the love thats the cause for the creation of this Universe, aims and hits at Shiva's heart. \nThat moment was the time all devas were waiting for, Shiva's penance was broken, he opens his third eye with furious anger and annihilates Manmatha who was in front of him. A very big monolithic rock behind Manmatha was also burnt and a pond was formed which is called as Manmatha Kunda.\nShiva's anger reduces and then he returns to his penance without even noticing Pampambika. This puts off her heart. \nAfter knowing the death of her husband, Rathi starts crying in anguish. She asks for help from all the gods to return her husband. She finally goes to Pampambika, and puts forth her pain and sorrow. \nLooking at Rathi's state, Pampamma could just not bear the guilt that Manmatha had to lose his very existence due to her. She promises to Rathi that she will sit for a strong Penance and beg Lord Virupaksha to return Manmatha.\n\nMany years pass that Pampamma has sat for penance and one day Lord Virupaksha appears in front of her in Pampa sarovara, and breaks her from focus to ask for what she wishes.\nPampamma was so happy and ecstatic, she first asks for the return of life to Manmatha and then the Lord himself should go to her Father Himavantha to ask for her hands to marry her. Lord Shiva who was touched by her devotion and love grants her wish and vanishes. Thus Rathi returned to vaikunta with her husband and Pampamma returned to her father to inform of the holy news and to prepare for the forthcoming engagement.\n\nLord Virupaksha then goes to Himavanta with Nandi other Gunas, Brahma, Vishnu along with their wives Saraswathi and Lakshmi and other great sages, to ask for marrying of his daughter Pampambika to him. \nHimavant agrees to this and they confirm the marriage date and time. This Mythological event is related to the current Phala pooje ritual, which signifies the wedding engagement ceremony of the cosmic couple.\nOn the day of Kalyana, Himavanta's entire kingdom is decorated with flowers from all around, streets are scented, people from all kingdoms, great men and sages, lords, devas all creation wants to witness the coming together of Shiva and Parvathi and the wedding ritual for the very witnessing will bring great virtue to common man. Hence is carried out through time until today.\n"} created: Thu, 19 Jun 2014, 10:07 AM UTC
