The Hikat dance is performed in pairs and the participants extend their arms to the front, holding each other's wrists. The dancers keep their bodies inclined back and make round of the same place, and try to swirl round in circles. First slowly and then as the beat of the music gets faster and as the laws of physics come into effect, a momentum, their feet come closer and body weight moves to the back , an orbit, now their toes almost touch, for a brief moment, laws of nature completely take over, no need to move, and in that perfect brief moment the two girls swirl around together in pure joy. The Hikat dance form is one of the best ways to release your stress and can usually be performed in social get-togethers and parties along with the marriage ceremonies. This is also performed in other states like Gujarat and punjab. In Punjab it is called 'Kikli'. Women perform this dance in pairs. They cross their arms, hold each other`s hands and whirl around singing folk songs. In Gujarst it is called 'Fer fundrdi'"} created: Sun, 14 Sep 2014, 12:10 AM UTC
